OUR STORY

Company History

After placing a $50 advertisement in a local paper, Erik Kimel founded Peer2Peer Tutors during his senior year of high school in 2004.  Erik started by tutoring one student - a sixth grader in math. The only way Erik could get his student to focus was by promising to shoot baskets with him after the session. The student loved it. His mom loved it more…

Since 2004, Peer2Peer has provided more than 30,000 hours of tutoring services to 2,000 students in Maryland, Virginia and New York. The company was featured in The Washington Post in 2008 and on CNN in 2010. Peer2Peer set a company record by creating 325 youth jobs during the 2009-2010 school year.

As of January 2011, Peer2Peer is operates in 6 US school districts across 3 states. They are currently serving: Montgomery County Public Schools (MD), Fairfax County Public Schools (VA), Howard County Public Schools (MD), Arlington Public Schools (VA), Loudoun County Public Schools (VA), and New Rochelle Public Schools (NY). The company has plans to expand its efforts in 2011 and to launch four additional private school district programs in the mid-Atlantic region. On a parallel track the company is developing a record of serving the underserved.

Throughout our growth, our motto has stayed the same: students learn best from other students. Each year we build on our past experiences to better serve our clients, our tutors, and the community.
