Meet the Peer2Peer family. And our sophisticated older sister, Aristotle Circle

 

Management Operational Mentor (M.O.M.'s)

Randi Mack, Montgomery County, MD. Randi is going into her 10th year teaching Elementary School in MCPS, but will be starting her first year as a 3rd grade teacher at Fallsmead Elementary School. Randi grew up in Montgomery County attending Walter Johnson High School. She then earned her degree in Elementary Education at the University of Wisconsin and went on to earn her Master's degree from Johns Hopkins University in reading and ESOL Her husband is a teacher at North Chevy Chase Elementary School as well as being the JV Football coach at Churchill High School. They were excited to celebrate their daughter's first birthday in June.

Nicole Weaver, Montgomery County, MD. Covering busy Montgomery County along with Randi, Nicole is going into her 11th year as a 3rd grade teacher at Burtonsville Elementary School in MCPS. In the classroom she has seen first hand the benefits of matching up peers to work together and is excited to be a part of Peer2Peer. Nicole got her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Education from Dickinson College and then went on to get her Master’s degree in School Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. Nicole enjoys her free time outdoors with her husband and two labrador retrievers. During college basketball season you will find her cheering on her home team, UCONN Huskies!

Courtney Jones, Northern Virginia. Courtney is starting her ninth year working in the school system. She spent several years as a classroom teacher for upper elementary grades. Courtney is continuing her work this year as a school-based support position focused on job embedded professional development for educators in the two school buildings that she supports. Courtney is a graduate of the University of Maryland with a degree in Elementary Education. She has her master’s degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Hood College. Courtney’s husband attended the Auburn University and together, they continue to follow Auburn football. War Eagle!

Ashley LeFave, Northern Virginia. Ashley is finishing up her seventh year of teaching in the public school system and is currently enjoying teaching third grade. Ashley is a graduate of the University of Maryland with a degree in Elementary Education. She also has her master’s degree from Hood College as a Reading Specialist. Ashley resides in Maryland with her husband and son and they are excitedly expecting their second son in November. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family.

Melissa Barrett, Howard County, MD. Melissa was raised in Connecticut and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education and Counseling from Hofstra University in New York. She spent the early part of her career as a high school guidance counselor in Long Island, New York and Russell County, Alabama. Since she moved to Maryland, Melissa has been freelancing as a college consultant, helping families navigate the college admissions process. She loves working with students and is thrilled to be a part of the Peer2Peer team! Melissa and her husband live in Ellicott City and have two children attending Howard County schools. In her free time, Melissa can usually be found on a tennis court.

Lonna Romeo, Westchester County, NY & Norwalk, CT. After a decade in the fashion industry, Lonna made a complete change in her career to work as a Legal Assistant for an adoption attorney 15 years ago. Lonna is married with three children. Her daughter attends Muhlenberg College, her eldest son attends Roger Williams University and her youngest son attends Albert Leonard Middle School. In her free time she is seen watching travel baseball or at the beach watching her kids surf.

Mike Pasciuto, Bergen County, NJ. Mike is entering his 11th year of teaching as well as his first as social studies supervisor for the Cresskill School District in Cresskill, NJ. Mike is also Cresskill's Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach. Mike received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Dickinson College and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Missouri. Mike enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and his son.

Nancy Cox, Durham/Chapel Hill, NC. Nancy is a former Duham Public Schools and CHCCS teacher, most recently having taught in the AVID program. Currently a School Board member in Durham, Nancy credits being elected with her record of advocacy efforts on behalf of parents and children through school and district level committees and groups such as the PTA. Nancy fulfilled her goal of becoming a teacher by earning her degree from the University of Virginia with a BS in 6-12 Social Studies; Nancy later earned her Masters of Teaching from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and her certification in Curriculum and Instruction. She also has licensing privileges K-5 in North Carolina. Especially because of her work as the AVID teacher, Nancy has a strong knowledge of learning strategies and study skills and shares these practices with her tutors to help insure their success with your child.

Akeel Rouse, 21st CCLC Program Manager. After moving to Montgomery County during his 9th grade year, Akeel got involved in a Saturday school program called the George B Thomas Learning Academy. As a volunteer tutor, Akeel developed a deep passion for helping kids. During his Senior year, Akeel joined Peer2Peer as a tutor at the Strathmore One Dream Academy program. After one year, Akeel was promoted to Program Manager leading a group of fifteen P2P tutors and forty-five students to academic and personal success. Currently, Akeel is taking classes at Montgomery College and still volunteers at the Saturday program.

Human Resources

Emily Shniderman, Director of Human Resources. Starting as a tutor for Peer2Peer in high school, Emily continued with the company at NYU as the application reviewer.  After screening over 200 students in her freshman year, Emily was promoted to the Director of Human Resources position at the ripe age of 19.  She is fluent in Spanish and working towards her Masters in Social Work at the University of Maryland.  For the 2011-2012 school year, Emily will continue her passion for education as a counseling intern at a public elementary school in Maryland.

Sydney Montgomery, Application Reviewer. In 2009, her sophomore year at Clarksburg High School in Maryland, Sydney became a part of the Peer2Peer team. With patience, dedication, and her love of tutoring, Sydney was able to move through the ranks of executive tutor to where she now works as an Application Reviewer interviewing potential tutors. Sydney is a member of the National Honor Society and the International Thespian Society. She is studying Sociology and Dance at Princeton University. 

Katie Shniderman, Application Reviewer. Katie started working for Peer2Peer as a tutor in 2009 while attending Wootton High School in Rockville, Maryland. She currently attends the University of Maryland. Katie works as a member of the Human Resources team, working from school as an Application Reviewer. In addition to her committment to Peer2Peer, Katie will be participating in the CIVICUS program at UMD, focusing on leadership and community service. 

Marketing

Lynn GertzLearning Specialist. With 30 years of teaching experience, Lynn brings excellent experience to Peer2Peer and even more excitement about the company. Lynn covered the Montgomery County area for Peer2Peer for over five years as a MOM, leading the company to a Best Tutoring Company award by Bethesda Magazine.  She also grew P2P NoVa for one year.  As a Learning Specialist, Lynn's speciality is meeting with local school officials about the applications of Peer2Peer within the local community.  She and her husband have two children and are proud grandparents of two. If it's football season, you'll find Lynn wearing her Redskins shirt!

Hal Zeitlin, Brand Ambassador. Hal started with Peer2Peer at the very beginning of sophomore year and has loved it ever since. A student at Winston Churchill High School, Hal works with organizations such as the Anti-Bullying Committee and his club Churchill Green. On his weekends you may find him cleaning up his adopted road with his youth group, AZA. He looks forward to a great year with Peer2Peer! 

Maggie Gilligan, Brand Ambassador. Maggie has been working for Peer2Peer since October 2009, when she became a tutor her sophomore year of high school. The next year she was promoted to Student Manager for Walter Johnson High School, and is now very excited to be working as a Brand Ambassador for the 2011-2012 school year. When she’s not tutoring, Maggie enjoys trying to learn every language she possibly can, and she already speaks Spanish, French, and Italian. She also enjoys almost any outdoors activity, especially camping, hiking, and biking. 

Kaiwei Hsu, Brand Ambassador. In 2011, Kaiwei joined Peer2Peer as a tutor during her sophomore year. She attends Walt Whitman High School, where she is involved with her club, Write Cancer Off, and serves as an officer for the Best Buddies Club. In her free time, Kaiwei plays volleyball, soccer and tennis, and volunteers at a local homeless shelter. She is excited to be a part of the Peer2Peer team! 

Lesley GreenbergContent Manager. In 2009, during her junior year at New Rochelle High School, Lesley became one of the first Westchester County tutors for Peer2Peer.  A year later, she was promoted to Student Manager.  Lesley loves working for Peer2Peer and is very excited about becoming a LES blogger for P2P.  Currently, Lesley is studying journalism and politics at New York University.   

Operations

Beth KimelDirector of Accounting. Beth was a Chief Financial Officer for a community bank for seven years. Lately she has been working with P2P as the business has expanded. Beth is an avid walker, bridge player and foodie (100% organic, of course). She is the proud Mom to Erik, Founder of P2P, and Sara, a graduate of UMD Smith School of Business - go Terps!

Lawrence Yen, Internal Strategist. Lawrence first entered the Peer2Peer family as a tutor in high school. Since then, he has taken his passion for mentoring students to the University of Pennsylvania, where he tutors with a West Philadelphia tutoring organization, volunteers at a community school, and serves as a financial literacy teacher. At Penn, Lawrence is a dual-degree candidate studying economics and finance, and enjoys being able to apply his studies to his work at Peer2Peer. 

Online

Mike BairdDirector of Online Learning. Mike has been an integral part of the development of Peer2Peer since 2005; in the process tutoring for hundreds of hours and helping numerous students achieve their academic goals. Mike began tutoring for Peer2Peer in 2005, served as Student Manager of Churchill High School in 2007, and was promoted to Human Resources Coordinator in 2009. While in HR, he interviewed hundreds of applicants and developed numerous internal projects. Mike graduated from the Honors College at the University of Maryland and is currently working towards his Master of Biomedical Sciences at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

About the Founder

Erik Kimel, Founder and CEO. Erik started Peer2Peer as a senior at Churchill High School in Montgomery County, Maryland and graduated one semester early from New York University's Stern School of Business with a double major in Finance and Management. He was named one of the 10 Most Interesting People in 2006 by Bethesda Magazine, featured on CNN in 2010, and voted to the 40 under 40 in the Washington Business Journal in 2011.  Kimel sits on various boards, including MCBRE and the Montgomery County Youth Council, and is a regular speaker in NYU Stern's MBA course Managing Change. Most recently, Kimel was named to Business Week's Top 25 Entrepreneurs Under 25 as well as the Huffington Post's Greatest Person of the Day.
